Our Story

Three decades of excellence

Started by husband and wife team Winnie Loo and Richard Teo, A Cut Above has gone from a humble 428 square feet salon to a household name in the hair styling industry. Since 1979, the company has grown into Malaysia’s more premier group of salons with an established hairdressing academy. They are definitely one of KL's best hair salons.

World-class skill at your service

Our stylists are known for their expertise and experience, setting the standards in the hairstyling industry. A brand that is true to its name, A Cut Above delivers outstanding services at affordable prices, while continuously pursuing embetterment in every way.

Serving customers in expanded ways

The A Cut Above Group of Salons has two sister brands under its name, each with its own commitment to serve our customers in their own way. X-Cut, which stands for express cut, caters to fast-paced lifestyles. Customers can walk in and have their hair styled in 15 minutes at only RM16. Restyle+ offers a combination of beauty, wellness, and environment to provide a unique experience for the young at heart.

In touch with the industry

Our salons have been on the A-list of fashion houses, modeling agencies, and media outlets to provide hair and make-up services. Fashion shows, cover shots of prestigious magazines, beauty pageants and cosmetic houses have sought after the reliable skills that only A Cut Above stylists have.

Winnie Loo, the Founder

As the helm of the country’s most prestigious group of salons, Winnie Loo is the unmatched name in the hairstyling industry. Trained by hair maestro Vidal Sassoon, she started her first salon while the hairdressing industry in Malaysia was at its infancy. Her skill and professionalism helped transform the industry into what the landscape is today.

Even from her early years, she has rightfully earned all manner of prestigious awards, gaining not only local but international recognition. Winnie has constantly been at the forefront of the hair industry, with her work being showcased in many international magazines.

In her love of the industry, Winnie did not rest on her laurels being the CEO and Creative Director of A Cut Above. She has also served as many other roles such as Creative Ambassador for Schwarzkopf from 2001 to 2007. Winnie has also graced her presence in many product shows across Asia.

No other Malaysian has thus far matched Winnie Loo’s illustrious and influential name in the world of hairdressing. A Cut Above, with its prestige, maintains the truest form of her legacy.
